APECS Sweden’s Executive Secretary, Ylva Sjöberg, arrived at the North Pole on the 19th of October and took part of the Sochi 2014 Olympic Torch Relay together with colleagues from the 8 countries of the Arctic Council. The ceremony was beautiful and meant to show the cooperation between the arctic states and the beauty of the Arctic to the world. During the cruise to the pole onboard the nuclear icebreaker 50 let Pobedy numerous presentations about different aspects of the Arctic and changes in the Arctic were held by the participants. Ylva presented her PhD project and also talked about the importance of supporting the next generation of polar researchers. A more detailed report will come later…
